Shelter

The first thing you’ll need when you go camping is a tent. Choose one that is sturdy and waterproof. Make sure it’s easy to set up, too.

Sleeping Bag and Pad

Keep warm at night with a good sleeping bag. Sleeping pads are also helpful; they cushion your body from the ground.

Stove and Fuel

You need to eat while you’re camping, and for that, you’ll need a stove. Propane is easy to find and works well. If you want something lighter, try white gas or alcohol fuel.

Flashlight or Headlamp

It gets dark out there in the woods! You don’t want to be stumbling around blindly at night. Bring extra batteries, too.

First Aid Kit

Accidents happen. A basic first aid kit will help patch you up until you can get back home.

Multi-tool or Pocket Knife

This will come in handy for lots of little things, like fixing gear or opening food packages.

Water Bottles or Hydration System

Staying hydrated is important while camping; make sure you have plenty of ways to carry water with you.

Fire Starter

You’ll be cold without a fire! Bring matches or lighters—whatever it takes to get those flames going strong.

Sun Protection

Protect yourself from sunburns by packing sunscreen, hats sunglasses and chapstick

Navigation

Getting lost sucks! Bring along a map and compass so that doesn’t happen
